MYCI & I: A Contamination Story

Storytelling is woven into our histories - telling and retelling our stories of the past. The mythos of TRIUMPHING against our demons, otherness, and things outside of ourselves have shaped the world as we know it. It has BOUND us to ideas of being that keep us stuck and separate from nature. This separation from the world and our bodies divides and conquers the possibility of creating utopias for ourselves and the beings around us.

BUT WHAT NOW? I propose a new story of the anti-hero: one that is contaminated by the fungal world, and that leans into the other and into the crip. They are at one with the world around them as they break free from the binary and explore the world - open to discovering kinship and possible utopias along the journey.

I have created the character and my alter ego ‘MYCI’, the ‘neurospicy’, gender-fluid, neuroqueer, skateboarding, cake-making, mushroom X human being. They are a wild and chthonic one. Myci is of the EARTH and CONTAMINATED with companion species - a being of the Chthulucene epoch.

Like the god Pan, Myci is vast and dynamic, connected to all things (MYCELIAL BY NATURE). Through contamination, the mushroom X human, Myci, exposes a way to decentralise our place in nature. Through their neuroqueer choreography, we can begin to unravel, REWILD and liberate the bound masculine and feminine energies, expressing the multiplicity of life itself and discovering UTOPIAS for all beings. Having taken a rhizomatic approach, this project has no beginning and no end

I INVITE YOU into a world where Myci is exploring what it is to be a neuroqueer mushroom being, and I would ask for the viewer to be OPEN to their own contamination story. How could you, the viewer, let yourself be contaminated? This is an OPPORTUNITY to BREAK FREE from your own binary and explore the world with a fresh, FUNGAL PERSPECTIVE!
